High fuel consumption? Empty
PostSubject: High fuel consumption?   High fuel consumption? Icon_minitime1Tue Jul 08, 2014 9:01 am

Hello GRiSO experts,

Having only owned my 2007 GRiSO 1100 for less than two months, I'm still slowly getting to know the machine. Since I got it, the fuel consumption meter on the dash has settled around 7.5 l/100km (just over 31 US MPG), which seems to be high compared to what other owners are reporting. I should note that I'm only relying on the figures reported by the dash, and haven't calculated actual consumption from tank to tank. I reset the TPS last week, and since that was way off (3.6) I hoped that might improve things, but there's no noticeable change (though overall driveability is much improved). I have yet to balance the throttle bodies, but it is first on my list of things to do now.

So my questions are:
1. Is the fuel consumption I'm seeing normal, or pretty high?
2. Is it likely that balancing the throttle bodies will make any difference?
3. Might I see an improvement once I flash a different fuel map?
4. Is there anything else I should be checking?

The bike only has around 5000 km on it (3100 miles), and appears to be in excellent shape overall. Any throughts or advice greatly appreciated!

I have a 2006 G1100, and just got back from a 1000km trip averaging 5,3l/100km. However, I can average around 7 if I mostly ride in town. I do however have a new factory map Mark sent me, a Mistral and a BMC filter but I haven't noticed any significant difference in fuel economy since upgrade.

Therefore, in my opinion 7 is normal for around town, and 5 for open roads.

I use my trip settings for fuel fill-ups (Trip 1) and for oil changes (trip 2).
Naturally Trip 2 is the bigger, better data point.
I am getting 35.1 to 36.1 overall mpg.
I live in a higher elevation and I am not stuck in urban gridlock.
When I go up into the mountains for twisty recreation riding I usually hit 39-42mpg.

If I do end up down in the Los Angeles Metro area my mpg drops to 22-25mpg.

Stay the Hell out of LA!!!

My typical 1100 efficiency was in the 39-43 miles/gallon range.  6.19-5.47 lit/100km

I've never paid any mind to the figures on the dash, but rather calculated the MPG occasionally at fill-ups. Your consumption is certainly higher than I would expect, maybe you ride like a maniac and then just sit and idle...

A good tune and a better map should square you right away though.

Sounds like my fuel consumption is at least in the right ballpark, considering I've mostly been driving in suburban stop-and-go traffic. Can't deny that I sometimes twist the throttle a little harder than strictly necessary  Smile

I'm planning to head out on a 6+ hour ride across the prairies next weekend, and I'm betting I'll see better numbers then. Flashing a new map is definitely in my future, I've already got the necessary cables and software. Just waiting to find the time to get the throttle bodies synchronized before I start playing around with the ECU.
