Hi all,

Noticed a very faint staining on the upper area on the vertical seam where the carc bolts to the swingarm. It's not a lot and certainly nothing coming out the bottom holes etc... I though this was a dry area?

what are the toque specs for the bolts?

also is it possible the breather could be blocked and this has something to do with it? Tried to find breather mod instructions but couldnt find anything

There's no oil inside the swing-arm side & even if oil leaks from CARC back into the swingarm side it should fall to bottom & shouldn't be pressurised anyway......usual practice is to seal this joint with black silicon sealant (not sure why as there isn't any reason to hard seal that I know).......is it oil or is it just black sealant ie is it hard ??

Looks like silicone or some other type sealant and to be honest it looks like someone has been prying at the joint.

Early CARC bikes through to about 2010 some time just had the bevelbox bolted to the swingarm with no sealant applied. The theory being I suppose that the rubber boot and it's retainer plate would be compressed sufficiently to prevent weepage when the box was bolted on tight. While this was generally true there was a tendency for there to be sufficient seepage to cause a stain at the joint and enough people pissed and moaned that the factory started glueing the boxes on with litres of silastic. That cured the seepage but it makes the bevelbox a lot harder to get off!

My guess is your earlier bike was owned by a pisser and moaner and his shop, or he/she addressed the issue by applying gobs of silicone sealant of their own. Note that if the bevelbox pinion seal or gearbox output shaft seal goes the tell tale is oil dripping from the brake hose clip closest to the joint on the swingarm. Rarely will it manifest itself as a leak at the joint itself.

Check the bevelbox oil level. It should be at the bottom of the threads of the filler port. Unless it needs a lot adding stop worrying and just ride the bloody thing.

cheers fellas

mines an 07 and done 94000kms. It's only just started to weep. definitely not silicone - smells like box/diff oil.

I checked under swingarm all dry, level is fine too. Bit of a weird one! Thought I might investigate the breather mod incase thats part of the issue?

In which case pull the Bevelbox off, it’s not hard. If there is oil in the swing arm it will either be from the pinion seal or the gearbox output shaft seal.
