Alpina wheels

Does anyone know the torque for the spokes on Alpina/GRiSO wheels? So far the spokes on my wheels are tight, but.........

I used 6.8 when I re-built and re-ringed my then new stelvio that would not hold air in the rear, I will look for the o-ring size i have some yet actually used a much better higher durometer vacuum rated synthetic o-ring rather than the stock alpina rings, every one on the short spokes were cut or nicked

will post the size when I find the box and the durometer it is also really good to hit each with o ring lube when you install the nipple Alpina suggested MOLYKOTE 55 from dow corning, I used pst-841 from poly-sci technologies as that is what I had.

both of these are great for lubricating under the dust shield and above the fork seal just pop the dust shield and smear some on the fork seal and pop the dust seal back in. These are really similar to what is used on Marz forks that leads folks to think their new bikes have a fork seal leak though, cause sometimes in really hot weather they will shed a little liquid down the fork tube and look like a very small leak.

lubing the fork seals goes a long way to keep them from leaking   my squirrel mind bonus featureette

Hey paul Guzzi pretty much did a copy and paste from the alpina documents, but I love the warning "DO NOT USE THE WHEEL IF EVEN A SINGLE CLIP IS MISSING"

My GRiSO has never had a single clip on the front wheel from delivery.....I guess it was supposed to be a lawn ornament, and not be ridden

So question is, who put wheels toghether, and where was the quality department? Guzzi doesn't do it. The rims have come from different suppliers. The hubs are grimeca I think.

Thanks a bunch for the wheel document by the way it is in my file of useful stuff now, no idea who does the assy. for them the hubs are marked on it Grimeca, as are the brake disk, which I am glad of, i think the round disks are smoother in operation than the wave rotor, (but that may be my imagination) the rims are marked behr, and my GRiSO has zinc plated spokes and nipples,

the stelvio has nickel plated nipples, and spokes, and the 19"rim is marked something other than behr (can't remember and the bike is not here). Not sure it matters other than the nickel resists corrosion a lot better.

There is a subtle difference in the two different rim suppliers though, the formed seats on the outside of the wheel (the bump that the nipple protrudes through)is much smoother in appearence on the 19" wheel than the 17s.

Sorry for this detail look at the thing but I have been in quality, and the machine tool production and engineering long time and notice this stuff in great detail.

Failure analysis is a big part of my job.

FWIW I am no fan of 'Wave'/'Petal' rotors. While their performance seems neither better or worse, especially for a Gumby like me, than standard discs I think they are more prone to warpage and to be honest I think they look daft.

I am not overly concerned, and normally i would just buy some clips and install, but after being jerked around so much by piaggio I am going to allow the dealer to handle it and request a loaner bike till it is finished....Piaggio has pretty much used up all my "good will" at this point.

i would be less concerned if it were the rear, they are a little less dangerous in a blow out situation.

I need to find a set of used cast ones from a Norge or Breva and custom paint them.

There is nothing wrong at all with the alpina system, or the wheels if it is done correctly. Not Half arsed at the lowest bidder, the pisser of this is I now have 2 new guzzis that have either had a major premature failure, or were delivered from the factory in un-fit to ride condition (according to their own definition)...and they are totally un-willing or un-able to make any corrective measure.

I want to give you a hug. Guzzi ownership should be fun and rewarding. You're getting gypped.

Anyone know where you can get the o-rings for the spoke nipples.
I have one leaking on the front wheel on my Tenni and will most likely need to replace the seal but have know idea where to source the parts.

I just got an o-ring replaced when I got a new rear tire mounted at Seacoast a Sport Cycle in Derry, NH. I had a slow leak. When they tried tightening the spoke, it leaked more. No lube? Bad seat for the o-ring? Or can you not touch these spokes after the wheel is built?

P/N is GU90706061. Maybe worthwhile calling a local dealer or AF1? AF1 popped up on a search for that part number.
