Taking the GRiSO in for first service this Saturday as I'm at the 900mi break-in. The GRiSO has been running great. Other than a flat spot in the mid-range (I am on the stock map), I have no complaints at all.

In addition to the standard service, I requested that they plan on greasing the swing-arm bearing. The service adviser was surprised, but not resistant to the request and agreed to do it once his mechanic assured him they could charge me more. Rolling Eyes I also plan to have 4qt of 10W60 handy when I drop it off in case they have other plans in mind.

Anything else I should have them check?

Pete is the guy to ask, but I believe you should get them to grease the driveshaft splines while they have the swingarm off. And if you want to really play it safe, have them grease the steering head bearings, too.

Steering head bearings seem to generally be OK, it's the Swingarm ones that are usually as dry as a nun's chuff.

Making sure the TB balance is correct is very important, the 8v's, especially on the stock map, are very sensitive to balance.

Good opc - get that final drive greased. Mine was dry.
Time for me to check my head bearings.
I was pretty damn religious about ditching stock bearings on my old UJM's and installing tapered rollers in the steering head.
My GRiSO deserves that more than a UJM.

Thanks for the tips.  Thumbs Up   I'll be sure to set high expectations (esp for the throttle-body balancing, Pete, since I don't yet have the tools myself).

DM, definitely a GRiSO deserves better treatment than a UJM.  Very Happy

An after-service report:
All pertinent fluids changed. I had to request 10w60, but they did it without fuss. They did claim Piaggio is recommending 10w50 for Phoenix (Arizona) area. Rolling Eyes

Valves were out of spec, but adjusted.  .12 and .20

Swing arm bearings were fine, the service advisor took photos to show factory condition. Nice and greasy. Thumbs Up Unfortunately, getting to the bearings revealed two (frame?  Question ) bolts were cross-threaded/seized from the factory. One broke as the tech tried to remove it and had to be drilled out and threads chased.  Crying or Very sad The second one came out without fracturing.

The ride home was great!

Valve adjustment seems to be a contentious issue here in the UK,, I have been told .10 /,15 from one dealer and .15/.20 by anther... Anyone gave the definitive answer?

A5 motor was suggested to be the smaller gaps. That was changes when the A8 came out. It doesn't make a lot of difference. My bike runs slightly crisper with the smaller settings. I think the change came about when tappets started failing. They may of thought that the gaps were closing up causing the tappets to ride the cam lobes.

So I noticed some oil seeping along the sides of my filter last night.  I tried to tighten it up a bit using the wrench I procured from AF1 (14sided Filter Wrench), but it kept cam-ing out without applying any real torque. Not sure which brand filter the dealer used as I cannot see the markings. Did I just buy the wrong size wrench? Any suggestions for a universal filter wrench that will work well with the 2014 GRiSO?

The 14 side wrench is the correct one for the UFI filter that guzzi use, If a different brand of filter was used by your mechanic, I would count the flats and use a correct size wrench or go back to the garage and get them to give it a nip.

It shouldnt need to be tightened so tight that the flats spin or you have a problem with the sealing Oring getting a nick or dirt behind it.

You can buy them 3 legged universall wrenches on ebay but I would only use it for unscrewing a tight filter, I wouldn't use it to tighten a new filter or there is something wrong,

If you do your own service in the future you have the correct wrench for the UFI filter.

Decided to pull the swingarm off my 2014 SE today to check and grease... All was good about as much grease as you would expect from a factory assembly line... Repacked the bearings and slapped a bit of grease the drive shaft spline... All done and now I have peace of mind Smile

If it is a white oil filter, it is probably the UFI. If it is a black filter, it is probably the HiFlo. Both are good filters and use the same wrench. If you keep "camming out", make sure that the wrench is firmly in place atop the filter. It's a tight fit in that recess and it doesn't help that your filter is probably covered in oil.

The UFI leaked on my 1100 when I got it and I heard it's not an isolated case so I'll never use those.

I'm running the Bosh 3330 (since Purolator doesn't make it for our bikes anymore) and it's available in car parts store in the US for $6.00 roughly.
The Bosh filter cross reference with the Motorcraft 910S that's in my 2014 Fusion (2.0L) I found out...
I just don't know if the Motorcraft is good for a motorcycle...

I'd like to propose a twist:

Please report all anomalies found at 1st service.
Failures.
Fluids.
Over/under torques
Corrosion
TPS
throttle cables
Throttle bods
Etc
Hey, I have good evidence my bike came from Mandello pretty fffff'd up.
A sharp dealer, not one located in New Hampshire and rhyming with boast,
Would have caught and mitigated the factory's failures.

Didn't happen.
Valves out, TPS out, throttle cables out, bevel fluid low, gearbox half empty...

Of everyone who had a story like mine was able to document it, and our little community substantiate the story, and maybe do a little statistical arythmetic...we could learn a lot about how to approach a new bike, how the factory is doing, how dealers are performing, but most of all get/keep these machines going while preventing stroke among owners.
