| I'd imagine they removed the material to avoids a potential hot spot.

| Reminds me of the pistons in the BSA works Moto-X bikes I had - a minimalist approach (though these were hi domed units with valve cutaways). That particular bike had a maximum RPM of around 7,000 and all of 40 HP, valve overlap was so great you could look through the engine from the exhaust port and out through the inlet port. Ran like shit if you didn't have the right exhaust (no muffler - just a Reverse Cone Megaphone on a short pipe). Brings back memories... | |
