How poisonously cold will it be at the beginning of May? Jude has a week in Lonny and I'm thinking I might ride and boat The Turd over for a bit of a wander about?

Subject to generalisation from the locals, it's still Oz, so the weather's variable - you might be lucky, so it's worth the punt. Give John Murray a ring - he's working out of Lonny now & if it all goes cold, wet & miserable, he can point you in the direction of the proper drinking establishments and other substitute activities.

Thanks Mal. I reckon it's worth a try. Tourism website says expect average temps of 5*C to 16*C. Not unrideable by any means and if I swaddle myself up well I should be OK. I found a pair of Guzzi heated grips I'd forgotten I had in the workshop the other day so they can goon 'The Turd' which is already wired for them. Still vascilating about new heated gloves. I might take Mark up on his offer of his surplus pair of Gerbings.....

Take him up on the offer. I remember going through the Hast Pass (NZ) on the 1100 Sport - with both the heated grips & the heated liners, it was comfy - and that -5C stretch up to Waiuru, again both were necessary. The advantage of the heated grips is that you can switch them on or off, up & down when needed while riding along more easily. But I wouldn't be without my liners. Especially not in Tassie.

Hello Pete
Down here we generally say that after anzac day the weather in Tas turns to shit ....
This does not mean that there cannot be some reasonable days, just that your odds are less ...
If you make it down this way please let me know and we can meet up
We are heading off to Europe later in the month so it depends on your timing
Cheers
