| So i took the exhuast pipes off for a clean last night and one of the studs broke!! See the nut on the right The only saving grace is that it was right at the tip and i think i should be able to re-assemble with another nut. I can only guess that the end of the stud had gone rusty and when the nut got to that end it snapped, no effort from me either? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Well, that's a bad-news, good-news scenario. I had a similar thing happen with a stud and with a slight beveling of the broken tip with a file, was able to re-thread the nut. Also used anti-seize goo. | |

| That is my plan of attack tonight Eric, i have also ordered a couple of replacments, they are less then £1 each, just in case. | |

| My nuts are so rusted on the studs, the stud&nut comes off as one (innuendo city here) in most cases and I just redo them back up as one (not as keen as you Keith so rarely remove them and just clean the exhausts in-situ with autosol)........but if replacements are £1 sounds a no-brainer.....are replacements MG OEM or are you going off piste for pattern studs ? | |

| Paul, i too have the rusty nuts problem, combined with the Rusty stud. I have ordered OEM from Fowlers who have them in stock. The most expensive bits are the replacement OEM nuts. I have ordered two sets with washers delivered tomorrow for £11 ish.
Now i just need to get the old one out!! lol | |

| I am lost for words, putting the exhausts back on, cleaned up the studs, plenty of lubrication and another stud breaks before i even makes contact with the exhaust manifold!
Those studs sure are brittle, i have thrown the old nuts away and using some new stainless ones instead. | |

| Sounds like they are weakened maybe by over-stretching in the past (or you don't know your own strength).....watch out for 'galvanic potential trolls' who will tell you your nuts will disappear or you'll no longer be a stud if you cross-mix metal platforms in warm wet places  | |

| I bought some new nuts and they came in revised.. they were acorns .. so the stud did not show thru.. looks better and may limit available oxygen / corrosion.
