Apparently, Castrol is the "preferred" supplier of oils for the current crop of V85s - still 10W-60. What happened to the older brands. When I get to do oil changes I will still use Penrite 10W-60.
There is no dipstick on my Travel - just a sight window with a Full and Add marks - needs to be vertical and engine hot to do. 1.6 litres for this engine.

Who gets 'Recommended' by the manufacturer is entirely dependent on who they have the supply contract with. Oil is good. Use some.

at least I won't have to change the clutch fluid on the Travel - it's a cable FFS!

And no change for the gearbox oil on the first service. It's part of the running-in apparently.

'Preferred supplier' just means that the Factory Fill provider (initial oil charge on build) gave an extra discount to the OEM supply contract to state they are preferred - so that future owners ask for the same oil at service intervals
In reality any oil that meets the grade & quality specs will do the job.

Be GREEN, use veggy oil. Make sure it smells like tomatoes.

Yep those were the days - 2-strokes and Castrol R - not sure it made them go any faster but it did smell good - something to aspire to: friendly exhaust fumes

Just stick a teaspoon of castor oil in your fuel tank & you'll smell lovely again

I know this thread is a little old, but I just changed my GRiSO for a V85TT ( sorry Pete!) and was curious which 10W60 Castrol oil? Seems rather bizarre that in my manual a specific Castrol oil is not stated, just 10W60, I can't find one locally.
And I know I don't need Castrol and can use any quality 10W60 that meets the spec, in fact picked up some 10W60 today at my local Honda dealer.

Thanks, I knew that, but I bought 4 litre anyway as it seems difficult enough to get 10W60 these days and I'll hopefully keep the V85TT long enuff to reach a 2nd oil change, ;-)

Just for fun, I contacted the Castrol email referred to from their site above and in fairness received a very quick reply (Green seems the appropriate font colour, ;-)): Thanks for contacting Castrol.
For your Moto Guzzi V series V85 TT 2020 motorcycle, manufacturer recommends the usage of engine oils with approval to 'API: SG + JASO MA' in SAE 10W-60' viscosity.
The suitable product is Castrol POWER 1 Racing 4T 10W-60 which has the right approval and excellent for your motorcycle.
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by our website, Castrol website is undergoing periodical update. The information about the bike will be updated soon.
We hope this information helps you better.
I can't find that locally or in the country even, though is available from Germany:
Some bike shops in Ireland are offering a Car branded version obviously some supply issue?
