Riding position

Love this GRiSO but need to change a few things to be really comfortable.

The handle bars are at exactly the wrong height for my body, puts my right arm to tingling & a kink in my neck.  I really don't want to sit up any straighter so I'm going forward & down but I don't want to do clip-ons that are close in to the forks, I do want a wider bar.  So I'm going to start experimenting with different bars & when I come up with something good I'll post some pics.

Seat is also going to get modified so I will be looking for a used pan real soon.  The shape of the seat keeps pushing me forward and also seems to have a hard spot or high spot running down the middle length wise that feels like I'm on a pipe.  First bike ever that actually makes my butt burn & feels like it is trying to split me in half.  I've heard other riders of different bikes talk about this & I always thought they were nuts.  I want to re-design the seat so I can get further back & have something to put my butt against.  This is going to be a solo machine so I won't need to worry about a pad for a passenger.

Does anyone else put their feet on the passenger pegs?  
It helps me a lot to get comfortable but I may lower them a bit & push them back just a wee bit more.

Once I get the ergo's right I have some paint work & graphics in mind.

I have not had a bike that has inspired me this much in a long time.

I have Onar's 15mm risers, Knight Design's 1" lowered pegs (with KD brake pedal), and a dead sheep. Pretty comfortable ride.

As for a pan if you go to AF-1 the brown Tenni seats are $105 complete. I've got a used one but at that price you are better off just getting one from them.

Did you have to change cables to go higher bars? My cables look pretty tight now & that was one reason to go lower.
Dead Sheep? As in sheep skin cover for saddle? How much did it raise you up, I would not want this seat any higher.

I'm going to check out AF1 because I expected to pay around $100.00 used so that is a deal.

No. I used Onar's 15mm risers and he also has a 20mm version that works with the stock cables.

Dead sheep is indeed a sheepskin cover. It's thin and doesn't raise you up much but does allow air flow under your arse so that you don't get any hots pots.

On my EV I sent the seat to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Spencer added some memory foam plus Supracor (same stuff in Reebok running shoes) and it works great for long rides. I'm going to send him my extra GRiSO seat soon. He won't change the shape however.

There's a guy here in Geelong who re-upholsters furniture but also does bike seats as he is a rider. He takes off the seat cover, puts on a sheepskin and then puts the original or aftermarket seat cover back on. You have the benefit of the sheepskin without the problem of it getting wet. I may go that route with the GRiSO.

Gee, that sounds completely odd to me, the sheepskin UNDER the stock cover! WTF?

IT works CC. The sheepie doesn't get wet and your bum still gets a soft perch. Plus you don't wear the wool off through the friction of getting on and off.

I understand, but how does that keep you cool when it's hot? Still would be sweating with just the vinyl/synthetic seat material.

True, but I've never really felt that hot, and it gets to 47 celcius here sometimes and I still ride.

Wellll a little update.

I've now put over 1200 miles on & the more I ride the more relaxed I am with the Grizzz. I think I must have been riding very tense as the neck pain does not happen anymore & altho I still get a bit of tingle in the right hand it is not nearly as bad.

I will do something with the seat 'cause I don't like the material it is made out of, too sticky, I can't slide around on it & the design of the seat keeps pushing me forward. No biggie.

Gotta admit this is one far out machine.

Tingles through the handlebars can be caused by putting risers on. Sometimes more weight is called for on the bar ends, sometimes less. I put 20 mm risers on mine and had to machine new, heavier weights for both ends, but the heaviest needed to go on the throttle - go figure. It's all to do with resonance.

Yeah. I've got Stelvio bar weights on my GRiSO.

So does having Stelvio weights count as a geegaw on a GRiSO? For the sake of this geegaw thing, I'm saying yes.

Are Geegaws that came with the bike still geegaws or does the rule only apply to geegaws purchased by the present owner?

I must know before I present my geegaw list
