Does anyone have any trashed tappet covers ?

Pete sent me a pair of covers that I've used to make some carbon protectors and once I've knocked up a few sets I'll send them over to him
and he can distribute them or bin them if he thinks they're no good. Similarly I produced some carc protectors, same story.

So this is where I'm at

The carc covers won't have the bells and whistles, just the basic part as with the tappet covers

Thing is I think the version I made for my GRiSO is a better way

To duplicate that I'd need tappet covers as male moulds.
I enjoy the challenge of developing these but don't really want to keep making them. If someone else wanted to take over I'd happily send them the moulds. Otherwise as long as it's only the odd set I'd make them.

Without a set of trashed tappet covers that I could rebuild to the original shape I can't make them anyway

Latest on this. I sent Pete's parts back and am not happy with the protectors as they were.

I'd decided to polish my tappet covers and since they were mine to play with decided to try getting
the basis of the mould I need to build protectors that replicate the plastic part in composite and will hold in place using the tappet cover bolts.

The idea worked out and this is where I'm at with the left hand cover. Right at the moment I'm preparing the right hand one for laminating and then polishing.

Just a mongrel.
I spent 22 years in OZ but unfortunately spent more than 5 years away thus lost my permanent residency.
Where I would call home if I could get back.
Love the fact that I could ride for days on end.

The devil is in the detail getting the protectors up to scratch.
When I polished my tappet covers I took moulds off them to make protctors.

Since then I've been working on getting a result that I'm happy with.
Not there yet but getting close. More coats of clearcoat to go on these tappet protectors to fill in the carbon weave and then brass rub rails on the top edge. The next ones will be vacuum formed onto the mould to go for a better finish before clearcoating.

Although these will never be in demand enough to warrant a company producing them.
(I will make the odd set on demand or give the moulds to anyone keen to go further
once I've got the process sorted)

However the Mandello V100 has vulnerable tappet covers so there ought to be an opportunity for some after market company to produce protectors there.
