Just had a great 10 days in Europe including the brilliant Col d'Iseran in France, then across Northern Italy and back through Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
Did about 2500miles - bike ran great apart from 1 blown fuse.....but noticed the GRiSO was liking the hairpins less and less as we went on - the last photo shows why.....
I've read on here about head bearings but still was amazed the state the bottom race was in compared to the top....ended up having to grind it off - now sporting taper rollers.
I can't imagine what I'll find when I have the swing arm off......

Sounds like a great trip in spite of the bearing failure. Nice pics too!

Stripped my swingarm down when the bike had around 60k on the clock.
The bearings and splines where dry but a clean up and new grease applied, all good
Cheers

Cheers all......hopefully my swingarm will be ok then - my 2007 1100 only has just over 26k on now. Job for the winter methinks.....

If your steering head bearings look like that chances are your swingers bearings and linkage bearings will be worse! Sorry.

Getting the swingers outer races out of the frame is a bastard of a job so I suggest you do it ASAP. If the linkage bearings are who its cheapest tp buy the whole linkage rather than the individual bearings and bushes.

Thanks Pete....looking forward to the challenge - I think!!
The head races looked as if the top one had been cleaned and greased - but the bottom one was just like it was caked in mud - just a seal issue or someone not fancying replacing it maybe?
Won't be doing many more miles on GRiSO before I pull it apart.....again ha!
