Average fuel consumption - programming Empty

I was wondering about the average fuel reading on the dash and that I belive it reads in US Gallon/Mile and wanted to know if this is somethig that is controlled by the ECU or the dash. If it is the ECU I would assume that it can be tweaked to reflect UK Gallon/Mile.

Or does it switch when you choose KmPH against MPH?

TBH I don't use the average reading but just how much I put in and how many miles on trip.

thoughts?

I know after setting my imported UK bike to KM/H instead of Miles it shows Liters/KM for me.

At least I very much hope it does, since I get a 1/12 to 1/20 fuel consumption depending on speed/gear etc. If that is in US Gallons that would be bad and there should probably be a trail of gasoline leaking out of my bike wherever I go.

I don't think the fuel consumption in the triplog is very reliable though.

I've never found it very accurate, even when there isn't a power commander installed which the ECU wouldn't know what it is doing. The only way to be sure is the method you'r already using.

That said, it might be useful for comparison purposes, like the difference between a spirited ride and a sedate one.

I never take any notice of it - just fill the tank; run to low warning & fill up within 20 miles (Usually around 150 miles-160 miles total).....I guess you could put US gallons of petrol in your tank instead of UK gallons but until we leave the EU unfortunately the pumps only allow you to put in litres of fuel anyway...just means sticking a lot more in to fill the tank Wink

It may not be overly accurate, however those who use the Beetle maps will notice an across the board reduction in fuel usage. I went from 5.6 to 5.0 (gals per 100kms). Looking at my plugs they are not looking too lean either.
