Well, the roller motor is definitely quieter than the A5 one.
Less gear whine up front, quieter cams etc... but I can hear the valve train more on this bike when it's hot.
After the break in service I went back the next day after a ride for piece of mind and checked the valve clearance and all was in specs.
I only have 1500 miles on it right now.
Don't know if it's due to the fact that the rest of the mill is quieter and you can hear the tappets more but they seem loud to me...
Anyone with roller tappet feels this way?

Also, the low fuel light comes on at about 110 miles vs 130/140 on the 09.
It's not a poor gas mileage issue as I put less gas in the tank at the pump, than I did with the old bike.

Mine make a fair bit of a racket, and quite a bit more than the 2VpC 1100.  It's very easy to hear on the walkaround video I posted last year.  Skip to the 1:45 mark for the emersive valve clatter experience...

As far as tank range goes, I've found that it extends as the motor breaks in a bit more.  I'm also waiting to see what the Beetle-Roper map has on range.  If the weather would improve, I'd run through a couple tankfuls of pure gas and <10% etOH gas for comparison.

I thought the roller tappet engine was designed to be quieter than the flat tappet engine. The bike in the vid seems louder in that area than my 2v engine.
Fuel consumption tends to be worse in sub 20c conditions and has mentioned already keeps improving upto 10,000miles.

The last of the 2V engines were very, very civilized and quiet. To me they had actually lost a bit of the mechanical 'Rawness' that attracted me to Guzzis all those years ago. That all changed with the advent if the early A5 motored 4V. How they ever got them through noise testing I have no idea! Some are worse than others, (Mine is the noisiest one I've heard!) heat makes it louder. On a 40*C day mine makes a noise like a major shunting operation in a crowded goods yard! The cams are not shimmed for end float so they rattle around, then there is the 'Cyclic Rattle' of the spinning tappets, the whirring of the chains, assorted bearing and gear noises, a huge cacophony of noises none of which sound good!

The thing is it refuses to go wrong!

The later flat tappet engines are appreciably quieter due to the absence of cam end float but can still be loud enough. The roller tappet motors are still noisier than the last of the 2V's but as long as the valves are spot on they are considerably less noisy than the flat tappet bikes but still retain that raw, 'Mechanical' something the last of the pushrod bikes were missing.

Yep, my 07 is a lot quieter than any 8 valves I ever heard.
I just love the soft clutch pull at the lever on my Black Devil... Smile

and i would like to thank Moto Guzzi for that there is no reason for a excessively noisy valve train ... Very Happy

Since this thread has come back to the forefront, I can comment further on the above question.

With the current Beetle-Roper map on my A8 Roller Tappet mill I got 180 miles out of 4.2 gallons or so during mixed use riding. The low fuel light came on in the 150-160 mile range.
