Map for the factory can Empty
PostSubject: Map for the factory can   Map for the factory can Icon_minitime1Sat Nov 29, 2014 1:45 pm

Dear Mark ............ I have some feedback for you in relation to the map that you have developed or the stock muffler (that muffler is a beautiful thing, did I ever tell you Question ) and updated in my bike during the Conjola ride a couple of weekends back.

I love you Is love a too strong a word I love you

Early this morning, to confirm my impressions since that weekend and after having ridden in Sydney's woeful peak hour carparks called motorways, I completed a somewhat spirited non stop 205 klm round trip from Concord up to Mt Victoria via the Bells Line of Road and back via the Great Western Highway.

av fuel 5L/100 ........ was as high as 5.4 and as low as 4.3
av speed 85 klm/h
top speed 134 klm

No more snatchiness, on and off the gas is seamless at any speed, even in very heavy traffic, and I have lost none of that addictive GRiSO trademark 'urgency' from 5500 rpm. The map is magic, its a real credit to you, many thanks. And BTW, did I ever tell you that the stock muffler really is a very beautiful thing  cyclops

Gary,
Although I have removed mine I also like the look of the stock muffler but it is a pity it is so big. If it was 2/3 the size and 1/2 the weight I would probably still have mine on the bike.

Map for the factory can Empty
PostSubject: Re: Map for the factory can   Map for the factory can Icon_minitime1Sun Nov 30, 2014 12:05 am

There are a few reasons why I prefer and enjoy the 'signature' muffler.

1: ......... years of wind noise and loud exhausts on long trips has pretty well fucked my hearing and while I have been using personalised hearing protection for quite a while now, the damage is done. The stock muffler actually has a nice, albeit subdued, note and if nothing else is certainly a unique GRiSO identifier.

2: ........ in large part I think MG has actually done a pretty good job of meeting the various exhaust compliance and design rules in the international market place as evidenced by many who acknowledge that the bike certainly runs better with some dead DBs and appropriate exhaust pipe/muffler length.

3: .......... having restored several bikes in the past 5 years or so, I know that in 15+ years or longer, future GRiSO restorers will be scouring the planet looking for original mufflers and everything else that current owners have removed and misplaced or binned. FWIW, in my NSHO, I reckon that a GRiSO muffler will be worth a few "bob" in years to come.

4: ......... unless you are are Moto3 competitor, weight saving is somewhat illusionary during real life riding particularly if a rider is overweight like me. I could probably lose 10 KGs for example by reducing the amount of bourbon I guzzle everyday, and I would live longer, and save $800 + buying an aftermarket alternative.

......... sorry if I sound like a pretentious old fuck 'know it all' but the 'bourbon monster' is in my ear and its not my fault

Oh goody, mine's all wrapped up and waiting for an offer, but to me it looks like something off the arse end of a '60s era Soviet space rocket. I much prefer my GPR for all the obvious reasons.

Factory can is just a bit different to the norm, and IMO it goes with the character of the bike.. I'm equally impressed with the work Mark has done on the factory map.. My bike goes very well and has improved MPG.

I'm running the 294C map with 4% more fuel, and + 4 on the CO.. No idea why it seems to need more fuel than others but the plug was white as a sheet with it on stock settings, and the MPG has improved since adding a bit more fuel so I suppose it must be correct.

Count me in the "I love the look of the stock (8V) muffler."

Seriously, I contemplate going back to it all the time. It's a great "GRiSO" look.

In Italy, I think the GRiSisty refer to it as the "factory trombone", which always puts a smile on my face.

I call the stock GRiSO muffler a haemorrhoid, its an ugly object sticking out your arse that needs to be surgically removed. Bella's stock exhaust came in second for "ugly".

I really like the look from the back.
From the side, it looks fat.
If it was a bit smaller, it'd be Tits!

I would have thought it was about 700 times that weekend alone! Maybe we should put it on a loop for you Gary, so you don't have to repeat it verbally. Put it on your MP3 player and "tune in".

Ghezzi, Bella had 2 of 'em, so doubly ugly - looked like they were about to fall off at any moment...

+1 on all 4 points of garyclem's post.

I sought out an original 1100 muffler on purchasing my bike. Fortunately, scored one in the US, cheap.
Weighs in at 10kg packed. The Agostini pipe 1.7kg.
The stocker is there for a future owner to decide its fate, along with the tank bag, rear bag, saddle bags and frames, rack, original mirrors, etc.

I never kept my original stuff for the next owner, there won't be one.
However, if anybody has a spare Bellagio frame and motor, I can build you the rest of the bike. Razz

While I think the stock pipe is as ugly as a hat full of farty arseholes there is no denying it works well.

Pete, you just couldn't help yourself could you? You had to close the loop on this topic with a segue back to previous 'bleaching' deliberations of the most recent past ...........

Using the 24S map with the Factory 60's era Soviet Rocket can with +8 CO setting. This bike is running better than it ever has, smooth from 0 RPMs on up. It was really annoying to ride around town, now its a pleasure. Thanks for all the hard work!

This is so much better than fiddling with carb jets!

How do I make a donation to your efforts?

I am also using the Stock map pipe fitted by via Ropersan from Mark.
I cant put my finger on the exact difference but I am using all the rev range around suburban streets , roundabouts and tight corners is no longer a balance of throttle clutch brakes and indicator switch as the throttle control is now smooth in the low revs, if I am riding with a pillion in the burbs its pleasure not a chore.
On the open road the red triangle keeps flashing at me, I look down to see 8500 rpm, never did it come on so fast.

As I like to say when something is good.
Its GOLD !!!

After Mark's latest map I was riding in the hills when my dash lit up with a crazy red light.  I WTF'd and then realized it was the shift light.  I had never seen it before!

The bike revs out so beautifully now...
