New member here. Just purchased 2012 v12 sport.
And looks like I have to be "rollerised"! Was unaware until after purchase, but life sucks.

Yup, it sucks but if having to rollerise your niche brand Italian motorbike just after you've purchased it is the worst thing that ever happens to you you have to admit your life isn't too awful!

No, it shouldn't of happened and Piaggio should of handled it better and more fairly but they didn't and we're stuck with it.

In your case I think as long as you find a decent dealer you'll be a shoo-in for a kit.

Depends Tony, he'll have to check the rocker covers. Early Sports have the 'Long' plug tube and use a 'C' kit. Later ones use the short plug tube and a 'D' kit. In my experience all of the bikes I've seen with ABS use a 'D' kit and non ABS bikes a 'C' kit but I hasten to add this is NOT definitive. Only way to be sure, (For a novice.) is to pull a rocker cover.

Can confirm it is the A7 motor. Does that make it the C kit?

All the 1200 motors are effectively the same. No need to be 1200 Sport specific, anyone who has had a good dealer experience re. Rollerisation in the UK should be taken as a good source.

As for which kit? As I said, pull a rocker cover and look. If you aren't sure take a pic of the inside and post it up. I'll tell you.

Whatever you do, don't put on a pipe, PC-V, K&N Filter, then run it through an "approved" Power Commander Dyno. You could end up with a worn out tyre, a lot less money in your bank account and a bike that actually is worse than when you went in.
Then you take it to get serviced, see a new GRiSO in the showroom, buy it on the spot and leave the Sport in the shop.
don't ask me how i know...
Have a look at Beetle mapping, it should save your a lot of $$$

Are the top ends the same for all 1200 motors? GRiSO, Sport, Norge, Stelvio and therefore they will all at some time or another need rollerising? I am in discussion with someone who thinks the 1200 sport motors have a slightly different top end and that they may not all be afflicted?

Mine was completed successfully by Twiggers in Loughborough, they may be a little far for you, but they successfully got new crankcases and crankshaft out of Piaggio when they did mine. ALL the top ends of the 1200's are the same with only minor differences in cam profile in one or two models. Sorry, your pal is grasping at straws. If anything the Sports are seemingly hit harder than the other models with an earlier attrition rate.

People look at the camshaft part numbers and notice they changed. They then assume that this indicates a change in profile, it doesn't. The part numbers changed when the factory started shimming the cams for end float in a desperate attempt to quieten the top end down! The early motors made a terrible racket!

I've rollerised heaps of every model made, it doesn't matter if it's a GRiSO, Stelvio, Norge or Sport! The all shit themselves with gusto! No exceptions.

Imagine how I felt after stalwartly defending the flat tappet design for half a decade and then finding out the hard way that I'd been horribly wrong!

This is the problem. It isn't until the bitter end that the issue becomes 'Noticeable'. The degradation in performance is negligible until things get really bad and because idle is stepper controlled it will still idle satisfactorily even when things get quite bad! By the time the top end gets noisy all sorts of other damage may of occurred.

Nobody wants to find out their engine is a huge, smelly, turd but simply sticking one's fingers in ones ears and going 'La-La-La' very loudly and hoping that by some miracle *Your* bike is special is a recipe for disappointment and higher costs in the long run......

If it takes 40 seconds for oil to reach the top end you have a serious problem. I have no idea who promulgates these ridiculous ideas but they are patent bollocks. If the cams were spinning for that length of time without oil to form a wedge they'd seize or flog out in no time at all. The cam lobes themselves sit in a weir that holds oil so absence of flow wouldn't harm them but the bearings would be dead in a few start ups if they were unlubricated.

On most bikes you can hear how long it takes for oil pressure to come up by listening to the tensioners rattle. Unless there is a serious problem like a blown out sump gasket the rattle lasts less than a second or two. The time the oil takes to get from the tensioner sump to the top end is about a finger snap longer than that.

You could try asking the genius who told you that one how the oil gets to the camboxes. If he says through the hoses that run to the backs of the heads? Thank him and take your bike elsewhere. The hoses only deliver the low pressure cooling oil. The lubricant comes up two of the head studs.
