Valve check for dummies 1100 Empty
PostSubject: Valve check for dummies 1100   Valve check for dummies 1100 Icon_minitime1Thu Jun 01, 2017 7:48 am

I am about to embark on my first full DIY GRiSO maintenance. I have had the bike since about 11,000 mi and I'm at 18,000 now only having changed the oil and rear brake pads.

I the next week or two I will be doing a rear brake fluid flush, CARC oil change, Transmission oil change, install RCS clutch and brake pumps/levers, balance throttle bodies.

The one where I am totally new to will be the valves on the 1100. Is there a how to somewhere for someone who knows nothing about the inside of the motor but really wants to learn?

Birch, if you don't have it already, you will need the workshop manual for the 1100:

Also, below is a link to a Youtube video showing the valve adjustment for a Norge (similar to the GRiSO).

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Inlet valve: 0.10 mm (0.004 in)
Exhaust valve: 0.15 mm (0.006 in).

Note, on the GRiSO, to turn the engine over to find TDC, remove the rubber cover on the front of the engine. Behind the cover is a 24mm nut.  Fit a 24mm socket and wrench to turn the engine.  Remember to remove this before starting the engine.

For TDC I pull the outer plugs and insert a bamboo chopstick.  I use bamboo because it won't snap like a pencil or popsicle stick, shear like a plastic straw and I have a pretty good supply.  wife's a not-so hidden Dragon
