2019 Geelong Black Dog ride.

Today I went with an old friend and her husband (them on a 2018 Harley Street Glide) and did the Black Dog ride. For those not living in Oz, this is a ride where every dollar collected goes to help suicide prevention and depression in men. We started in Werribeee and then took the back roads heading towards the You Yangs (an extinct volcano) and then though Anakie to Steiglitz (old gold mining town which produced more gold per ton than anywhere in the world) an on to Meredith and Buningyong where we stopped for the people with small tanks to fill up. Then, still keeping to back roads we went on to Batesford where we stopped for lunch. Unfortunately I was so busy getting a boston bun at the bakery in Buningyong that I didn't have time to take any pics of the bikes in the ride, and had to wait until we stopped in Batesford. There was only one other Guzzi on the ride, a very nice V7 classic, but there were a good variety of other marques. Harleys did outnumber all the others though.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I don't normally take a lot of pics. Probably because I'm to lazy or riding. But I thought I'd better this time.

Sounds and looks like a good time for a good cause.

What really caught my eye was what looked like a pay phone standing next to the Indian.
I thought that animal had gone extinct, a technological dinosaur, pushed out by cell phones.
I haven't seen one in years and could really have used one.
Last year while on an extended road trip my cell phone decided not to charge.
Asking about a pay phone the reply I received was "No pay phone here. Don't you have a cell phone?"
Good thing I brought paper maps!

I could not tell you where a phone box is in our town or even if there is one
I recall a a kid using the old black phones with the "A" and "B" buttons. If you pressed the "B" button and reversed the hand piece you could have a conversation of sorts. It was a tad difficult but you could get a message across.

I remember having to find a payphone when my landline stopped working. The woman I was dealing with was in Perth and had no knowledge of Geelong. Trying to get across to her that I couldn't just follow her instructions on what to because I was 2 kilometres from my phone was nearly impossible.
