PostSubject: Drive train noise GRiSO 1100   Drive train noise GRiSO 1100 Icon_minitime1Sat Jun 26, 2021 1:34 pm

Just noticed a noise at small throttle openings, more noticeable in 6th a clack clack clack which disappears with acceleration or deceleration. First noticed when I removed the cheek pads from my helmet. Rode around the block without a helmet and it seems quite pronounced. Only just over 8000 kilometers on the bike. On input would be appreciated.

'Face cam shock absorber on gearbox input shaft'. Known issue on 1100's. It's been covered here before, try searching for that it should bring up some links to the issue.

Two things on that:
You can find details on this issue on this document: Technical note 011-2006
Note that I've seen Grisos with SN that are not supposed to be affected by that issue, make the noise nonetheless. I don't know if a bike can develop play over time or if its an issue with Guzzi's book-keeping being lacking and some SN slipping through the QC.

I guess you checked but make sure that the noise comes form the gearbox region and not headlamp. I had the wire connector inside the headlamp shell vibrate at some RPM's and hitting the shell making a sound similar to the one of the face cam shock absorber. The noise disappeared when I taped that into place.

Thanks for the replies. My serial number is definately outside of the numbers at ZGULSC0017M... and build date is after the tech note. I will check the headlight.

Just because it is 'Outside the range' doesn't mean that it can't be the problem. There was a reason the face cam shock absorber was deleted on the 8V gearboxes.

Sounds like your front frame end carc torque arm bush is worn out, that causes that noise.
