Subject: 2008 Breva 1200 Sport Question Tue Jan 30, 2024 3:22 pm
Hi, I know this is primarily a GRiSO forum (and it was a great help when I had my GRiSO back in the day), but I am picking up a 2008 Breva 1200 Sport on Thursday, one previous owner with 11,000 miles on it, and I'm wondering if there are any specific things I should look out for with this model, issues, must-do-mods etc? As soon as I pick it up and figure out what cables I need to make it work with my laptop and guzzidiag, I plan on buying a beetle map for it (I had his map on my GRiSO, and it was night and day). Beyond that what should I be aware of?
Thanks in advance for any and all advice or thoughts!

Same cables used for your GRiSO will work on the Breva.
Nothing too serious on the Breva jobs wise. Swingarm and shock linkage bearings need greasing and it is advisable to do the Loctite 'Wick in' trick with the bevel box pinion nut but that's about it. While wise to replace the sump spacer gasket it doesn't seem to be as failure prone on the 2V bikes as it was on the later 8V's. No idea why? Different delivery pressures maybe?

Thanks, Mr. Roper; I appreciate the reply. Unfortunately, I think I threw out the cables I had for my GRiSO during my last garage clean. It serves me right for throwing out any cable ever, lol. Do you know if Guzzi diag still requires an ancient (windows 7) laptop?
I appreciate the heads-up on what to grease.
It's got a big crack in the windshield assembly, and AF1 doesn't seem to have any black ones available, so I guess I'm going eBay'ing for that. But other than that, it looks to be in remarkably good shape for as old as it is. I'm super excited to be back on a Guzzi!

GuzziDiag will work on Windows 10 or 11. Or whatever version it's at now.

Thanks for the reply, Beetle; I'm glad to hear it runs on modern versions of Windows. I dreaded having to dig through our IT bone pile at work to try and find a win7 compatible laptop.
I'm not a big fan of power commanders. Am I correct in my understanding that one won't be needed with your map? My preference is to have my bikes custom dyno tuned but my local shop (2 WheelDynoWorks in Seattle) doesn't do Guzzi's, and I had such good luck with your tune on my GRiSO, I'm confident your map will take good care of me =)

No power commanders required. If the Sport has one, remove it and hit it with a hammer.

Lol. That's always been my experience with PC's as well. I won't know what the previous owner did to it until I pick it up on Thursday and get to poke around in it. Now I've just got to find the right cables to order to connect it all up, once I get it in my hands and buy a map off you.
Then, it's time to ride the pants off it until track season starts, and I switch over to my track-friendly bikes (although the sport is definitely going to get out there on track at least once or twice for giggles).

Best cables are from Lonelec in the UK.
This set I believe

Thank you all for your help. You've gone above and beyond on this thread, helping me figure out what I need to get this Breva in shape. I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow and get started on it. I own faster bikes and lighter bikes, but there's just something about that Guzzi side-to-side shimmy that I can't wait to get back on. =)
