Lifting Bar for 1200 GRiSO Empty
PostSubject: Lifting Bar for 1200 GRiSO   Lifting Bar for 1200 GRiSO Icon_minitime1Mon May 09, 2016 3:52 pm

The subject came up the other day about using the through-hole as a pick point. As pointed out, this worked great on my 1100 and some of the early 1200's that have a spacer or washer inside the frame tube to reduce its internal diameter and keep a lifting bar from shattering the plastic chrome bezel. My 1200 doesn't have said spacers and I'm toying with the idea of replacing the bezels with something different at some point, but in the mean time, I've come up with a lifting bar that is cheap and easy to make and solves the problem nicely.

By tack welding a couple of smaller diameter rods to the top of a larger bar, the bar becomes eccentric in shape with a taller top surface that fits inside between the chrome bezels so it lifts against the inside top of the frame tube and doesn't touch the plastic rings.
A notch ground at each end indicates Top Dead Center of the lifting bar so you can know where the smaller rods are on the inside.

I'll bet somebody who's really clever could re-purpose one or two of those old flattie cam shafts into a right fancy version of the above.

Ahhh, Pete.

Simple and elegant.

We would expect nothing less.

You fit the definition of "artist" in so many ways.

cheers

So you'll be making up those for each of us, yes? Wink

Well done!

Well done. Id thought about it , but it was as far as I got. I had planned to get some nylon type round bar that could be machined to give a neat fit in the frame tube but with an I. D. smaller than bezel. I'll get my finger out when I get home later today.

The horrible weather here is forcing me to start hibernating my GRiSO. I have a front stand but don't have a center stand, so would it be possible to 'hang' the bike on a metal rod (like Street's above) but then place the ends of this rod on both sides of the bike on e.g. concrete blocks just high enough off the ground so that the rear wheel is clear.

Would that be OK (for the bike) for a 5 month duration? Or does that create some 'funny' tensions in the frame?

Nice Thread and great question, tho I need the "popcorn" emo here.

Surely, tho, the answer to your question is "that'll work with no problem," but we all know what my thinking in such things is worth!

Street,

Thanks for the idea & photo. Made up one of these bars, today, with my neighbor Jeff's welding help.
