Hi Beetle, Gregg uploaded your map into my GRiSO 850 today. The outcome was just brilliant. This is what happened:
No more backfiring shifting up, down or deaccelerating.
Idles sweetly at 1100 rpm, previously 1350
Roll on smoother
Fueling down from a rubbish 6.8 Litres per 100Kms to 5.3

I think this is a pretty damned good outcome Beetle, thank you very much indeed.
Was going to ride my Multistrada tomorrow-its on a sabbatical now.

Cheers.
GHTE.

Give her a good thrashing please. I would like another ride report if possible. If you would also be so kind as to post a pic of your plugs after said thrashing.

Hi Mark, when we loaded the map it set itself to -5 Co we ran it around our loop - about 140km and it showed 5.6 km/litre. When we returned I reset the Co to 0 and Glenn (GHTE) rode it home and back and it showed 6.0 km/litre. I reset the Co to -10 this morning and we did the same loop and the consumption went to 5.3km/litre. Glenn reports its characteristics remained very similar - no popping, surging or vibrations - went very well.
We will go and give it a flogging next weekend and take some photos of the plugs.
Would you like me to get Glenn to do a logging run on the bike ? I have all the leads etc and have watched you but not well enough to repeat the process. Is there a post somewhere that will take me through the set up for preparing for a logging run if you think that is our best next step ?

It set itself to -5? Hmm. How odd and vexing.

There's no Howto post for logging. As long as there's no hunting, dips or flat spots, a logging run may not be necessary. If power delivery feels linear and the plugs look OK, we can leave it at that.

If you don't think logging is necessary then I may use the leads to go with your wide lambda "perfect fuelling" method for my Sport in the future sometime- and see if it adds to my total rapture !

Hi Mark,
Photos of the plugs after a decent fast run are attached - 40 minutes at and above 5000 rpm but not as far as the rev limiter. The map is set with -10 Co at this stage, no popping, surging or flat spots. Ran just as well at -5 Co but was returning above 6L/100 km on a cruise.
Hopefully they look OK to you besides the gap being too open affraid  (which we have just adjusted after the photos).

Hi Mark, are you worried about continuing to ride the bike with -10 Co settings with the plugs looking like this ?

Not at all. It's just a tad rich. I will tweak the map when I get home (away until next week).

Hi Mark, loaded the map yesterday and Glenn has ridden the bike on our usual loop twice now. He has reported that the throttle is a lot more sensitive almost to the point of being too nervous. The fuel consumption has gone to 5.6 when I set the CO to -5. We could not do a good thrashing and image the plugs, so we will do that next weekend. What do you reckon leave it at -5 for the thrashing or go to 0 CO ? So far Glenn prefers the previous map and -10 CO for feel and smoothness.

Nervous throttle? Is he saying the throttle response is better? What about the ride itself? Flat spots or vibes?

Are we sure the tune is spot on with this bike? Fuel consumption looks high to me for an 850 regardless of how hard it's being thrashed.

The throttle is super sensitive, very hard to ride smoothly - causing jerky behaviour. No bad vibes or flat spots, no hesitation or misbehaviour.

Hi all!

I finally loaded Beetles (15.6.15) map to my GRiSO 850 yesterday and boy it is different bike now.
Throttle is way more responsive and I like it! It's much easier to accelerate fast and sounds are so good that I might hold my planned exhaust change. Even the idling sound got more bass.
About overall fuel consumption I don't know yet but dash shows now 4-5 l/100km where with old map it was ~ 1 litre more.

GRiSO transformed from gentle cruiser to kind of gentle hooligan bike so fuel consumption might be high due fact that I cant hold myself flooding it on acceleration. I will test more after work and check CO trims. After loading map I did couple TPS resets but should I also reset autolearning parameters?

Thank you Mark! cheers

Dear Mark, Pete and Tabasko,
Loaded the newest map this morning and set it to -5 Co, the throttle is now great and the bike is really going well.
The fuel consumption is now 5.3L/100 Km and I have taken another series of photos of the plugs which still look just a touch rich to me - what do you think ?
I have reset the Co to -10 and we give it another run tomorrow morning on the same test loop and take another series of photos to share with you.

Hi Gregg,

When you take a pic of the plugs, can you take them end-on like this:

I like to see the air-fuel ring.

If it rides OK, why not? If it's OK at -10 and the plugs speak to me, I'll tweak the map some more.
