GRiSO $20AUD phonemount Empty
PostSubject: GRiSO $20AUD phonemount   GRiSO $20AUD phonemount Icon_minitime1Wed Oct 19, 2016 7:54 pm

Hi All,

After my second attempt and two test runs of around 80 miles each, I'm finally reasonably happy with my GRiSO phone mount, so thought I'd post the details here.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Firstly the mount is Chinese, cost me $20 AUD including shipping, solid, well made and comes with a USB charger and lead for connecting to the bike battery terminal. I connected mine (via a 1.5A inline fuse) to the headlight feed as I was worried about battery drain, then discovered a tiny on/off slide switch under the USB cover on the mount. Personally I like the headlight feed as it's on when I'm riding and off when the bike ignition is off.

The phone comes with :
1) The phone mount with attached USB outlet

2) Ball mount on a flat plate with a elongated dual size mounting hole, shown here clamped between my left handlebar clamps

3) Clamp for ball mount to phonemount

4) Spare rubber grippers
5) Rubber bungee device for gripping the phone corners if needed. I haven't needed it as the four rubber arm grippers hold the phone tightly.

This picture shows the mount with phone in the rubber grippers and a (slightly too long) USB cable attached for charging the phone. I can tilt the phone so its really easy to read when doing GPS duties and out of the way of my dashboard.

My first attempt was a more engineered approach where I fitted the ball mount onto my LHS Dart flyscreen mount as below. The position was perfect as the phone sat at the level of my GRiSO dash, but off to the side.
Unfortunately it was a failure as the phone extended about 1" past the Dart screen into the slipstream and this caused annoying wind buffeting   Embarassed

Thanks Techman, that certainly is true GRiSO Inspiration.

But does that not mean that your handlebar is less securely clamped/fixed?   scratch

Or is there just enough space between upper & lower part of handlebar clamps for this "flat plate" (so the plate is fixed but is not in the way of the "handlebar-clamping-task")?

I torque the handlebar mounts up to the required level of 25Nm, with the gap at the rear, so I don't believe there is any difference between this and the 'standard' handlebar mounting. (I'm a fast torquer)

After this the phone ball mount bracket is securely fixed in place, clamped between the front ends of the handlebar mount.

Hey! is this a legit 'gegaw' ?

I just measured it so we have numbers now!

With the ballmount plate crushed between the front LH handlebar mounts and torqued to 25Nm, the minimum gap at the rear of the LH handlebar mount after it is also torqued to 25Nm, is 1.5 mm
