I find the obvious bits of plastic on the GRiSO annoying. I feel they really let down a class motorcycle.
My latest move is getting rid of the plastic dipstick. Apart from looking cheap it doesn't make sense to have it finger tight, when the motor is cold I can use my multi tool to loosen it Ok. But when the motor is hot the plastic is soft it marks and bends.
Beetle came up with a picture of his solution and that looked like the go. There were many various metal plugs online but this is what was available here and works for me. Of course I had to have it drilled and tapped and a threaded rod added for the oil level indicator.

I bought a stainless one from MG Cycle. It has markings on it already. Since it’s just a “stick” and not tapered like the plastic one, it’s a little hard to get threaded in. It kind of floats around once it’s loose. I’ll probably have to use the plastic one to really measure the oil level properly.

Has anyone tried the dipstick from a lightweight v to see if it fits? The old v50 dipstick had a flat metal wand that was easy to read and a hard plastic knob that could be undone with a ring spanner without damage

It's such a small cross-sectional area, I doubt it very much. The Stelvio Dipstick is a fairly snug fit as well, takes a good tug to remove it,

It makes refilling with Oil a bit of a faff, even if you remove the Holder Fitting from the Crankcase. I modded my R/H Rocker Cover to make Oil fills easy.

These are the mods that Guzzi men do. Eschew the aesthetic for the practical, this is part of the brand/consumer marriage.

Be careful with those two part dipsticks. They come apart in the sump. Don't ask me how I know.
