I am planning to install Magura HC1 radial master cylinders on my GRiSO 1200 SE from 08/2012.
The diameter of the brake master cylinder is clear, as only the 18 mm version is homologated by the german TÜV, our technical control, which is due every two years.
For the clutch master cylinder there are no legislational requirements. Magura recommends to take 1 - 2 mm more diameter than the original size. There are clutch master cylinders in 13 and 16 mm. What are your experiences regarding the diameter.
As my GRiSO is completely dismantled for the moment, I can' t do any road tests. I want to rebuild it over the winter for next season in the way I like it  Wink

So long, Benedikt

If 16mm is original then13mm will increase the leverage (and reduce lift) by 16sq/13sq which is 256/169 = 1.5.

so 2/3 the clutch weight but 2/3 the lift.

Is your clutch heavy??

No, the original clutch master cylinder has a diameter of 12 mm. I have no problems in clutch operation.

It' s just the purpose  of gaining a better brake feel together with Brembo P4 34/34 calipers and in consequence an identical look for the clutch master cylinder.

On my Morini Granpasso I have the same calipers and a 18 mm brake master cylinder. The result is an absolutely perfect brake feel with a nearly force linear deceleration.

Brmoke

Thank you very much for the clutch master cylinder dimension.

And thank you for the pointer to Magura levers, cheaper than Brembo

Here some further informations concerning the effective stroke of the original clutch master cylinder. It' s a Brembo PSC_12-25 and the stroke is dependent on the lever position. Considering a diameter of 33 mm for the grip the figures are as follows:
Pos 1   9.46 mm
Pos.2   9.07 mm
Pos.3   8.70 mm
Pos.4   8.34 mm
So the total displacement is between 1070 mm³ in Pos.1 and 974 mm³ in Pos.4

To add to your hydraulic information My 2008 GRiSO had a quite heavy clutch = 12Kg clutch pull-in weight & 8Kg to hold it.

So i modified a larger diameter Oberon command cylinder (30mm instead of 25mm)
This reduced the clutch pull to 9Kg clutch pull-in weight & 5Kg to hold it.
