Getting things together Empty
PostSubject: Getting things together   Getting things together Icon_minitime1Tue Jan 26, 2016 11:06 pm

Right, I have read, or at least skimmed the 67 pages and then another 12 pages of the Guzzidiag threads.
Read a lot of the exhaust threads,
and am going to move to the dark side and put together an upgrade.
I ordered the cables for Guzzidiag last week, they turned up today, 10 days from the UK.
I too, am after a good responsive bike that doesn't necessarily have an increase in peak power, but more torque across the rev range, combined if possible greater fuel economy.
I am not after fuel economy for economy's sake, just better than i am getting currently.
Just to expand a bit, the bike has only 1000ks on it and the economy has been dropping since new, from 7.5 down to 6.5l/100.
I plan on getting the first service done then look at replacing the map and the pipe. Currently it has a G.P.R. Deeptone without DB Killer, and it is LOUD. came with the bike from new.
I really like the look of the standard exhaust, but it could do with being a bit louder, halfway between standard and the G.P.R. would be great.
It seems that the best exhaust to use would be the Mistral Hi pipe, where can one purchase this from, in NZ?
is there a part number?
I need to ask beetle nicely for the correct map. will pm with request and donation etc.

There was a thread where someone was asking about removing the CAT from the standard pipe or making any other mods to give a bit more sound, and is there a map for it?
Does anyone have any experience about this?

Hope I haven't bored you all to death

The Mistral with the dBk is not very loud. Without the dBk it doesn't sound that good, IMO. YMMV, and I could record the sound for you if you wish. MG07 is the Mistral part number, I think.

The stock muffler is heavy. I haven't done a map for the stocker without the cat, and I'm not interested in doing one either. It weighs about 8kg as compared to the carbon Mistral at 1.9.

If you want loud 'just because', it doesn't necessarily equate with performance. I quite liked the sound of the Agostini Black-X. It was louder than the Mistral with their respective dBk's in, but the torque curve was flatter and fuel economy was marginally worse. Of course, good economy goes out the window with the 8V above 5K with any pipe, except the stock, which being butt-ugly and boat-anchor heavy slows you down anyway. That is a joke, BTW. I cracks me up.

If you insist on running without a dBk, then the Mistral Hi-Pipe is the only one I would recommend. You can of course, run any pipe on any map, but performance will suffer. You can check out what maps I have built [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

If you really want loud, have a chat with Len Sheldrake. He modified a Termi by pulling the cat and IIRC, modified the exhaust port. It was tremendously loud. It sounded bloody awesome, and performance was similar to the Ago megaphone, if a tad thirstier.

All opinions are my own, and may not reflect reality. Thumbs Up

cool, I know the original is a boat anchor weightwise, but it is a thing of beauty, after all, if we can all live the with piece of art Wink hanging of the right side of the engine, we should embrace the exhaust Laughing

Anyway the bike came with the GPR and it did sound cool for the first couple of hundred kays, now i need something that sounds in between the GPR and stock.

I have a Zard with dbk, but no cat, which has perfect tone and volume for my liking. It's also nice aesthetically, to my eye. I got mine cheap on eBay. The map Beetle and Tocino cooked up for it is very good too.

I have in the past bought pipes from the US but the current shithouse exchange rate, (At least for Oz, NZ is probably better.) it would probably be more advantageous to purchase direct from Europe.

Mark has previously described the Zard as a Hard Taskmaster in terms of building a map but I assume he is happy with what he has achieved, (I haven't used or tuned a Zard equipped bike.).

One thing I am a bit wary of is the level of knowledge of how the 8V works and even basic tuning in NZ, (Don't worry, this isn't specific to NZ, it's universal.) if you have any worries about getting it right I'll happily fly over and walk you through it all for a modest consultancy fee. It would have to fit in with Jude though as she'd cut my cock off if I went swanning off without her again! Very Happy

Pete

Not sure. Mine was pre-owned and didn't come with any original packing. The new ones aren't cheap but if you watch you can pick up a used one pretty cheap. I got it for $150 USD.

I sounds like the Mistral is the most developed, but the Zard looks good and the Agostini-X Nero looks awesome.
Well have to get some prices in and see what the costs are to get to NZ.
Thanks for the info,
