Pete writes in his signature "'Forever Bike" ... I think this is what most of us want - keep our Grisos as long as possible.
From time to time I am thinking, what new motorcycle would I buy nowadays? Something from Piaggio? Really? No way, the porfolio sucks since years. The V85TT ist not my kind of bike and all others - no! Maybe the V7 is a nice little bike but not fascinating at all.
I ended up with those: - Ducati Scrambler 1100 - BMW R9T - Triumph Speed Twin - Indian FTR 1200 I like the looks of all of them but I have never riden one of those.
What would be your choice? I am still hoping that Piaggio will introduce something soon...

My next bike, should I buy one, will not have an internal combustion engine.

Yeah, an electric sidecar tug is very appealing to me. Lots of torque, and the tug floor/trunk could hold a lot of batteries.

The Ducati, or Indian from your list. If they weren't so fuggly, KTM super duke. Rocket3, something about 165ftlbs of torque intrigues me.

R9t or 2021 Honda CB1000R in black with a café fairing on either.

Personally I do not need more than 100 HP but I would prefer less weight.

Jan, IF that is your list, in place of the Speed Twin consider a Triumph Thruxton RS. This can be bought with a factory ‘Track Racer Kit’ which has a sweet Dolphin fairing amongst other parts. Just over 100hp, and a lot lighter than the GRiSO.
Apologies I’ve teased a picture of the limited edition, Thruxton TFC

R9T trying too hard, seems a little precious. FTR, haven't ridden it, but smaller than i thought in person. Not a lot of fuel tankage.
Think I'd go Niken, because winter commuting and might as well just go weirder.

You do realize that the fuel tank is under the seat, not behind the steering head?
Fuel capacity @ 12.87 litres, reserve 1.89 litres. I can get 200 kM on my FTR1200S, most I've achieved is 230 kM. (it was empty!)

Thank you guys - a lot of good input.
Some thoughts: Weight was also one of the reasons why I sold my California Vintage again (almost 300 kg with gasoline). If we buy a new motorcycle now it might be the last one running on gasoline.

Yes, I do realize that. Nice design innovation for mass-management. I'd still prefer more capacity, personal preference.

A couple years ago, I'd have voted for a Motus. I might still, as there's still new ones in dealers showrooms, though at stupid prices right now.
That said, I finally got the GRiSO set up for my weight and riding style. I don't want to think about replacing it.

When my GRiSO is a total loss due to either age or an accident, and no replacement GRiSO is available anymore, I'll probably look for one of the Triumph Tigers. Really love those bikes. A Caviga Raptor would be nice too but at the time that the GRiSO is unavailable those bikes are for sure museum relics. And the BMW R1200R's are basically the less elegant and cruder looking counterpart to the GRiSO so those could be an option too.
Moto Guzzi unfortunately doesn't have any current bikes that I really fancy.

A hydrogen powered bike would qualify as zero-carbon, and be an internal combustion engine. I think they’re the future of some transport, but only after cracking hydrogen from H2O becomes economically viable

Not zero-carbon. Consider how hydrogen is currently produced, and how the equipment that produces the equipment is produced.

Nothing will EVER be zero carbon.

I know nuclear power is not an Aussie fave topic, but in all honesty it is the only true way forward. The liquid fluoride thorium reactor (LFTR; often pronounced lifter) is a type of molten salt reactor. LFTRs use the thorium fuel cycle with a fluoride-based... They’re hugely failsafe, and can burn spent uranium nuclear fuel. Downside for Aus is less demand for Uranium $. [/soapbox]

You don’t need to get on your soapbox for me. I am pro nuclear power, and it IS the way forward.
Unfortunately, there’s too many greenies here who don’t actually understand how ‘green’ technology is made (or works). The concept that solar panels have a carbon footprint and cannot be repaired or recycled makes their tiny brains explode.
Our idiot prime minister was recently touting hydrogen fuel, and I expect without comprehension of how it’s currently produced. Not with nuclear power, BTW, but the by natural gas reforming, or by coal powered electrolysis. Heaps of carbon.

Don't start me on the carbon footprint of producing an electric vehicle. Seems to be a fact often ignored by those that have them.
Tony, get off your soapbox and put it away.

Sorry, I digressed. I like dino-juice powered devices. My Sport and I will be together until I can't ride any more - probably keep it for a bit after that too - how can you get rid of an old friend?

Too early in my GRiSO life to be thinking of alternatives.. But if pushed i might go v85 -
[....pause till huffing and puffing stops]......
i used to ride lightweight Vs as well as heavyweights and the 85 still has the feel of a lightweight V but lighter controls and more responsive. As always doesn't feel as good as a heavyweight but not bad.
and the idea of riding a pushrod aircooled engine at the end of petrol really amuses me

Hey, if you part with it (and if I can still walk) can I have first dibs? That aside, when I can no longer handle a GRiSO I'll get something small/Italian and red.
